villains 4

hitsWelcome to a brand new edition of Hits and Misses as members of the Vinylmation Kingdom give us their thoughts on a series and this week we take a look at Villains 4

villains 4Hits

RogPalmerUK – The Villains series has always been one of those series that has never fully connected with me, while some Disney villains are simply amazing characters but I was never a fan of the split faces over the Vinylmation and I have to say I think the move to more “traditional” style is much better and I went straight after a Maleficent figure when I could as it was a fantastic figure that I wanted to get.  I also really like the Rhino and Aladdin guard but mainly because I’ve been battling them in Disney Infinity!

Jeremy Arruda – For this set only 3 figures stick out at me. The first is Gantu. He looks incredible! Lilo and Stitch is one of my favorite movies so can’t wait to add him to my collection. Second hit would be the chaser. He looks very cool in this form. And Mcleach would be my third hit as i think the human face transfers well.

Jay Phlibitijiblitts – Overall I am pleased with the set but there were a few that stood out for me and some that could have been done differently.  Hits for me in the set are:

  • McLeach

    • An all time favorite from Rescuers Down Under and well depicted here. Capturing his scowl so you know he is an evil dude and not to be trifled with. It would have been fun to see him with Joanna as an accessory.

  • Dr. Frankenollie (Variant)

    • Ok, seriously he brought Peg Leg Pete back to life, well with Mickey’s brain. How can you resist not loving him! The variant of the original vinyl is a much more accurate representation of the villain and his evil way.

  • Maleficent

    • Beautiful work on the Sleeping Beauty villain. Despite the grumblings of her in another set she is quite popular within the Vinyl Community. The coloring is spot on with her and in no way am I disappointed!

  • The Horned King

    • Ah, the Black Cauldron! Who does not love this Disney Classic. The backup villain for the movie was depicted well here in his own 3 inch vinyl.  Nice to see that some not so beloved movies are being shown here again. Disney made the right choice for the movie and the right choice for a chaser in this set.

Misses

RogPalmerUK – For me the whole series is a big miss, after 4 series, I still only have a couple of them, so while the designs are a big improvement on the previous sets.  But for me I now don’t need much of an excuse not to buy things.  For me this series doesn’t have many mainstream villains as we seem to be getting more sidekick and guards, hopefully by moving to smaller set sizes, they can slow things down a little.

Jeremy Arruda – First misses are the Hercules characters. Very disappointed in these. Wish Pain and Panic had been separate vinyls, and the cyclops is plain boring. And none of the other characters honesty jump out at me. They’re all pretty bland.

Jay Phlibitijiblitts – Now for the Misses

  • Cyclops

    • One of the many villains in Disney’s Hercules and my least favorite in the set. Depiction was great but there were many other choices to be had if limited to Hercules. Let’s see there are the Fates, the Titans or the Hydra to name a few I would have chosen. Not so happy with the choice in villain Disney made here.

  • Pain & Panic

    • Where do I begin… Not loving that Pain and Panic is a one design vinyl. As they have done in past sets with other characters, separating them into two Jr’s for the set would have made them more appealing for me.

  • Dr. Frankenollie (Non-Variant)

    • Not loving the layout on this one. The variant is a much better depiction and I said that above. If it was in black and white maybe would have liked it more but it just does not sit with me.

Last week saw the release of the new Villains #4 Vinylmation series and the Oh My Disney Blog decided to have a bit of a play around with the figures and here is what they came up with:

We finally got our hands on Vinylmation Villains Series 4, just in time for Halloween. They look awesome, but they’re really not the nicest people.

At the Reflections of Evil event we found out about a load of new series coming out this winter and we have recieved a tip off from a Cast Member of some dates for the next couple of months for Disney Store releases.  These obviously haven’t been confirmed by Disney so we should take them as a “rumour” for the moment.

We already know Marvel is set to be released on October 11th but it looks to be heading to Disney Stores as well as to the parks.

marvel 1Villains #4 currently has two dates being thrown around, Friday October 11th or the following Monday 14th October which sounds about right as most Disney Store releases tend to come out on Monday.

October 21st will see the Disney Store release Jingle Smells Series 3 and a new Holiday figure.   The holiday figures shown off at the Reflections of Evil event were from the “Park Team”, so we don’t yet know what these are.

November 11th will see the release of Pixar Series 2, these got previewed at the Reflections of Evil event and look to have moved from the Disney Park team to the Disney Store team (Gerald Mendez and Enrique Pita).  This series has also been reduced to 8 figures.  In this series there is Boo (with a Jr), Dory, Elastigirl, Mr Pricklepants, Dot, Alpha, and Emile.

Our friends over at Vinylmation Exchange posted these images of the Pixar Series 2 figures that got shown off at the Reflections of Evil presentation event.

Earlier this week we found out about a new Villains series via a Hong Kong Scrapper seller about a Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Christmas.

Today once again from a Hong Kong Scrapper seller we have our first look at the Cyclops from Hercules.

These are rumoured to be released during the Villains 13 Reflections of Evil event.

We have heard rumblings of a new Villains blind box series coming out soon and in time for the Reflections of Evil event in Epcot next month.

Today via a well known Hong Kong scrapper seller posted a eBay listing for a Oogie Boogie figure.

We cannot say for certain that this series will be out for the Villains event but it looks promising.

We also advise everyone to never bid or buy from Scrapper sellers.
