At the Imagination Gala we found out during the Purple Talk that there will be special twin pack featuring
two classic attractions, the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. Two classic figures (The Bride and Pirate Skeleton) will be re-released as a special black and white variant edition that will be out in the Fall of 2015 to tie in with the Disneyland 60th Anniversary.

Hits

RogPalmerUK – I am a huge Park Starz fan and I have purchased every single release including all of these figures so for me they are all a hit.  There are a couple of figures that stood out as being fantastic releases including the Hitchhiking Ghost Ezra which looks perfect next to last years Gus. I just love the hitchhiking ghosts and I love how they have captured his face and the little bowler hat looks great.  I’m also really impressed with the Mission to Mars variant as its not just a variant for variants sake but also representing an entirely different attraction.

Chris : Ezra and pirate. Nice addition to the variants from 1&2 keeping consistency for collections.

Nick – Hits: or HIT would be Ezra. Continuing the HM series the same as series one and two. Classy, simplistic, and cool.

WDWRobertPig Pirate “Black”:  When the Park Starz 2 Pirates of the Caribbean 2 pack came out I immediately bought them, as I loved their Sepia inspired look. Though as time continued on I questioned why they did them in this format and I even thought of selling them. Then when they released the Pig Pirate in the same style I was glad I decided to keep them. The look suits them well and I can’t wait to collect this set within the Park Starz series.

Hitchhiking Ghost – Ezra “Clear”: Following with the Pirate Series collecting Variants within series to complete a variant set really hit the mark. The clear ghosts look great and displaying them together really adds to the variant clear look. Hopefully Phineas will be included in Park Starz series 4.

Astronaut “Red” It took me a while to come up with a reason why they picked Red & Blue. After you leave the briefing room two groups are are lined up for their mission at one door with one group being Red and one being Blue. The variant looks great in red and the small detail of the Mission Space patch on the chest is a nice touch. Though I like this color combo I think a Red/Green Astronaut might have been a better choice?

Big Al & Trixie: Having never seen the Holiday show for the Country Bear Jamboree I did not get the purpose of this set and initially I was taking a pass on this variant set. Now I know the reason why I am excited to add this set to my collection. Thanks to YouTube I was able to experience the show and I absolutely love it. I wish they would bring the show back, but for now I will have these two to fill in the gap. I really hope that Park Starz Series 4 continues the tradition on matching regular and variant sets!

Misses

RogPalmerUK -I think the oddest choice for a Park Starz variant is the Country Bear Big Al, popping a little hat on his head, 3 years after the figure was released, just seemed to be a bit lazy and I also think Trixie’s variant is a bit weak with just some holly and some ice skating boots painted on.  Not great for $50.

Chris – Country bears and astronaut. Country bears fall flat because they aren’t really that different from the normal versions. Adding skates and baby new year outfit isn’t worth it. The astronaut is a bland figure already so the red one is really no better. Would have liked to see a Glow turtle

Nick – MISSES: or MISS is the Country Bears two pack. The biggest issue I have aside from the lack of thought put into this variant is the fact that we are still getting variants from previous series (Big Al from series one) it’s kind of lazy to “re release” older figures in a series where we could’ve seen (like Chris mentioned) a glow turtle.   Overall the variants are DECENT but lacking in creativity.

The Disney Parks Blog posted a story sharing some details of this weeks Park Starz 3 artist signing taking place in Walt Disney World.

srarrr739771-613x880A few weeks ago, the newest Vinylmation series, Park Starz 3, was released at Disney Parks. I love the Park Starz collections as they feature classic characters I love from attractions, shows and parades at Disney Parks. This newest series looks awesome (hello, Dreamfinder!!). On Friday, June 27, three Disney Design Group artists – Thomas Scott, Casey Jones and Caley Hicks – who designed figures in this series will be at D-Street in Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World Resort. They will be signing figures and talking with fans from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. that day. I recently asked lead Vinylmation artist Thomas Scott about his favorite figures.

srarrr379482

“I love them all as they are my babies,” laughed Thomas who has been designing Vinylmation figures for a few years now. “I’m a big fan of space toys, so I included a Space Mountain-inspired astronaut in this series mostly because I wanted one. I also think the turtle from Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade is one of the best figures we’ve ever designed. Casey Jones’ caveman from Spaceship Earth is also pretty unique as he is a character rarely found on merchandise.”

There are 12 figures in this limited release series – 11 known figures and one mystery chaser figure. They are sold either in individual mystery boxes or you can get the entire series by purchasing a tray.

srarrr639933-613x423You may recognize new characters in this collection from attractions that were in Vinylmation – Park Starz Series 1 and Series 2 such as Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion. I’m guessing my fellow author Erin Glover is excited to see a figure of the Abominable Snowman from the Matterhorn.

srarrr039394-613x418

The artists also created some limited edition variant figures. Two of these items – the Pirate with pig and the Big Al with Trixie set – will be released on Friday, June 20. The remaining two – the Mission: SPACE astronaut and the clear Hitchhiking Ghost – will be released on Friday, June 27. These releases will take place at the D-Street locations in Florida and California where you can also find individual boxes or trays.

You can also find select items on our Disney Parks online store – http://www.disneystore.com/vinylmation/mn/1000828/

Which character is your favorite from this series?

This week on Vinylmation Vault we are staying at the Magic Kingdom and heading over to the Haunted Mansion to visit a slightly different and a yummy version of the famous Hitchhiking trio Phineas, Ezra and Gus.

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 4.09.34 PM

There are several other versions of these guys available to collect in Vinyl form from the Haunted Mansion set to the Park Starz Series. Well only Gus and Ezra are available as Park Starz for now. The ones for this week will be the Mystery Bakery Haunted Mansion Series set which include the dynamic trio of Phineas, Ezra and Gus.

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 4.16.07 PM

The Haunted Mansion Mystery Bakery series are a bit more whimsical looking than their Haunted Mansions versions and they are a bit cheaper on the open market as well.

What I like about this set is how the Artist Ron Cohee adapted these iconic guys into cupcake form while still keeping them the lovable characters we all know and adore. The ghostly green and grey colors used with these guys set off hauntingly nice and eerily amazing look.

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 4.17.32 PM

Of course there’s a bit of spilled icing on each of the cupcake Hitchhiking Ghosts, which in turn makes each of the three happy in own way. Phineas with a big splotch on his head and some on his nose as well. He looks like he is rather eager to taste the icing as soon as it can get in reach of his tongue. Ezra has his usual maniacal look on as always but the icing is quite out of reach for him to enjoy. Finally Gus only received a small splattering on his nose where he is trying oh so hard taste it as soon as it is in reach of his tongue.

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 4.19.48 PM

But what cupcake would not be complete with out icing? The icing is two-toned purple and green accompanied white screaming skulls. The skulls reminded from the organ located in the Ballroom from the Haunted Mansion ride.

So what are your favorite recreations of the Haunted Mansion Trio or even the attraction itself? Well that’s all for this weeks Vinylmation Vault and come back again to see what comes out of the Vault. Do you have a vinylmation that you would like to see in future Vault Series? Post a comment below!

Oh and these are my favorites versions of the Trio!

RogPalmerUK – I am a huge Park Starz fan, I have every release so far and this is without doubt the set I am most excited about adding to my collection this year.  I love everything about Park Starz, they are unique and different from anything else in Vinylmation.  Not being constricted by the Mickey mold gives the artists an opportunity to spread their wings and some of these are certainly a little different.  Every figure is a Hit to me, but some of favourites include the Abdominal Snowman from the Matterhorn which just looks amazing and I’m really excited about adding another bird from the Enchanted Tiki Room as they haven’t explored this great attraction too much on the 3″ mold.

Other favourites include the Dreamfinder who will fit right next to Figment on my shelf and the same goes for the Hitchhiking Ghost and It’s a Small World figures.   The Pig Pirate figure has been done amazingly as they have managed to capture the character perfectly and do something unique with his laid back appearance.  A simply amazing set that I love.

WDWRobert –  When the Park Starz Series first came out in 2011 I instantly fell in love with them. I loved that they were not limited to a specific mold and they could take a shape that is more like the shape of the character instead.

Dreamfinder: He looks amazing! This might be my all time favorite from the Park Starz lineup, well actually #2 next after the Park Starz Series 1 Robot. I love the shape they used to create Dreamfinders look. The shape reminds me of the Russian Nested Dolls. How cool what that of had been if he was and Figment was the Nested Doll inside.

Caveman: Finally a character from one of the best attractions at Epcot. Spaceship Earth has gone over several changes over the years but the caveman scene with he exception of some much-needed enhancements has pretty much gone unchanged. As for the vinyl itself the caveman is a huge hit with me. Though the Vinylmation version of the caveman is a simplified version of the actual caveman from the attraction I still love it. I only of wished that he came with a staff like the one in the attraction.

Hitchhiking Ghost – Ezra: I was excited when they released Gus in Park Starz Series 2 and I couldn’t wait for the next series to come out so I could see what ghost would be next. Though Ezra facial expression really does capture the Ezra from the attraction I cannot wait to add him to my collection.

Irish Boy & Cactus: It’s a Small World is one of my all time favorite attractions for several reasons. For one my parents rode the original at the 64 Worlds Fair in NY. Second I love what attraction stands for so many positive things one being a salute to United Nations Children’s Funds that was working for a better tomorrow by helping the children today. Thirdly I just love the look of Mary Blair. I am thrilled to add the Irish Boy & Cactus to my other Park Starz Small World Vinylmations. Of the two pieces that are included would say that the Cactus is my favorite.

Pig Pirate & Pig Pirate ‘Black Variant’: Just like the Irish Boy & Cactus and the Hitchhiking Ghost Ezra Pirate Pig (and the variant) continue to build on the attraction pieces. I just love the shape of this guy and how about the lovable little pig resting on the pirates rather large stomach.

Turtle: I am a huge, huge fan of the Main Street Electrical Parade or MSEP for short. Next to the Salute to America float you know the one with the smiling high kicking Rocket Styled gals that accompany the float that’s at the end of the parade well after them the Turtle is my favorite. What amazing Job they did on this guy. I can almost hear the Turtle talking to me like the real one that is in the parade.

All in all the entire series was a hit for me even though some characters I don’t really care for I still appreciate the work that had gone into the create a vinyl image that would make the fans happy.

@Imagineerinsta– As someone who has never been into the Park Starz series, i find this one amazing, and may actually buy a few! Dreamfinder and Ezra are by far my favorite from the series and I really like the Ezra Variant. Closley behind those are Sonny Eclipse, Trixie and the Electrical parade float, they all har great designs and fit the figure very well.

JamesPig Pirate (the pig is adorable), Sonny Eclipse (such a great, somewhat obscure character), Dreamfinder. This might be my favorite series, top to bottom.

Patty – Small world cactus and Irish boy, electric parade turtle

Misses

RogPalmerUK – Picking some misses for this series is extremely tough, I love them all, I love what they represent and honestly, I just can’t pick out anyone I don’t like.

@Imagineerinsta– For some reason I don’t care for the Yeti in this set. It looks too much like the Park #1 series yeti. The rest of the series is great and makes me really want to join the park starz world.
