From the Vinylmation Vault Alumni Association or VVAA this week we have what I consider to be one of the most underrated series out there today. The Mascot Open Edition only has four vinyl’s in this series and each one is a huge hit for me. What appealed to me the most was all the “fall” Looking matte finished complementary colors that were used on each character. I just love Matte finish. Don’t get me wrong some vinyl’s look way better with a glossy finish but the Matte finish & gorgeous “Fall” colors are my favored choice.

Donald at Duke University

Mascot Donald’s has wonderfully colored Steel Blue sweater with the Maroon colored letter “D” on his chest that could perhaps stand for either Duke or Delaware University or even Disney University. Donald adorns a cap that is colored the same as his sweater that adds a nice touch to the outfit. Then as I look s bit more I noticed that the artist ever so slightly changed Donald’s eyes to have a darker shade of blue as well, which I just love. For the longest time Donald Duck has been my favorite character but as I grew older I noticed I grew tired of his easily angered & envious demeanor and eventually I grew tired his curmudgeonly ways and looked for a character that was a little bit more carefree, but that’s for a different story. Now back to Mascot Donald and why I still love this guy. Now Donald does not always loose his cool and I do like to a point a slightly angered Donald as he becomes very entertaining at that point. So when I first looked at Mascot Donald I absolutely loved his intense and moderately aggravated facial expression!

Goofy at Georgetown University

Mascot Goofy is dressed in a mustard color sweatshirt with a Maroon colored “G” on his chest, which may stand for either Gettysburg College or maybe for Georgetown University. The dark blue foam finger is a nice touch as well. Now unlike Donald Goofy rarely get angered so to see the intense look on his face was a great idea. One more thought on goofy as I look at him I quickly recall all of my favorite cartoon shorts with Goofy trying to demonstrate some type of sport that ultimately ends in some chaotic mess.

Pluto at “Paw Tech”

Mascot Pluto wears a dark maroon sweater adorned with a dark blue letter “P” on the chest. My guess would be is that Pluto had enrolled in and is a huge fan of his Alma Mater “Paw Tech” as he has a firm grip on that pennant and cheering for a Victory for the “Fighting Dog Paws”! Squirrel!

Mickey at Monsters University

Mascot Mickey wears a maroon colored sweatshirt and of course there’s the Universities Mustard colored “M” which can only stand for Monsters University. Well I guess it could also stand for Marceline University as well. Like Donald’s face Mickey’s has that off white color that fits perfectly to the theming. Of course to complete the Retro look for Mickey is wearing sky and dark blue ball-cap with the Colleges “M” embellished in the front.

The whole gang visits Medford College to say hello to their favorite High School professor of Chemistry.

As a whole I really adore these guys a lot and I just love the their facial expressions showing their “Game Face” along with their school colors. Though I eluded earlier on where they all attend College or University by their letter on their sweater/sweater, I must add that the letters on their chest really represents the first letter of each of their names. Though it was fun to imagine what University/College they could be going to.

I actually purchased these at full price at the Disney Store and even though they wound up as clearance eventually I am still very happy with the set. I think it’s the beautifully “Fall Colors” that were used that really drew me to these guys. If you have not collected these well what are you waiting for? Go out there and win one for Walt!

Do you have a favorite Vinylmation that is hiding in the Vinylmation Vault? Let me know and maybe one day I’ll feature it in a future Vinylmation Vault.

Happy Collecting

Earlier this week, I shared pictures from my Disney Infinity photo shoot in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Today, I share pictures from a day spent at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and then a very special shoot at Epcot. Without further adieu, off we go to DHS!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Sorcerer’s Hat

Our first stop, of course, was the Sorcerer’s Hat, located at the end of Hollywood Boulevard. The D23 Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey insisted on taking some photos. I just wish the sun was cooperative.

Since the lighting facing south wasn’t working right, we went over to the DHS sign, located in the same area, and got a couple of better pics.

Pixar Place

From there, it was off to Pixar Place, where Buzz, Woody and Jessie had a blast rompin’ around.

Then, while Jessie took Bullseye for a ride to wrangle up the herd, Buzz and Woody met with their real life counterparts in the Toy Story Meet ‘n’ Greet.

Magic of Disney Animation

From there, it was off to the Magic of Disney Animation, where Ralph and Vanellope got their chance to meet their counterparts and the Sugar Rush Meet ‘n’ Greet.

This is where things got exciting. My entire vacation, this line was a 2 1/2- 3 hr wait. I didn’t want to wait that long in the middle of the day, so i got to the Norway Pavilion in World Showcase as soon as the rope dropped, and I was second in line for… the Frozen Meet ‘n’ Greet with Anna and Elsa.

And with that, our Disney Infinity Photo Shoots for this trip has come to an end. But do not fret! This summer I will be making my way back down for the 2014 LeakyCon over at the Orlando Convention Center/ Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and I will be staying on Disney property at Saratoga Springs Resort, so I will be at the parks when I can, and with me will come with Agent P, Phineas, and any other Disney Infinity figures that arrive by then.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

trade game

It’s 2014 and now that the holidays have come to an end, there seems to be a lot to look forward to in the world of Vinylmation. A whole new slew of vinyls will be hitting the parks and your local disney stores this year.  There seems to be some great vinyls releasing this year. Here is just a few sets that should be coming to us; Marvel Series 2, The Jungle Book, Robots 4 (Villians Edition), Toy Story series 2 and probably my personal most anticipated line “The Haunted Mansion – Mickey & Friends.”

Of course these are just to name a few. This year also brings out the trade event “Eachez” vinyls. This new vinyl idea has come with praise and criticism over the last few months, with some people loving it and others seeming to hate it. The seller market seems to be flooded with those purchasing numerous version of the Eachez to get that variant, while selling an opened common Eachez for cost or a little bit more than cost + shipping. This has turned into heated debates online with others accusing those purchasing just buying and selling to make sure they get that variant.  The LE though on some of these Trade Event Eachez coming are pretty low and are sure to be a most wanted on many collector’s wants lists.

It’s possible this may be the year we see some vinyls that we have been dying to have in our collections. What could possibly be one of the most popular sets created, the “Disney Princess” set is a series that many cannot wait to hear an official release date or get a sneak peak of. Another big hope for many of us collector’s this year is the release of “Haunted Mansion” Series 2. A lot of people believe and hope we may see these this year. Haunted Mansion Series 1 has become one of the hardest and rarest sets to complete, with great looking variants and high price tags.

All in all, seems like us as collector’s have a lot to look forward to, our wallets though, not so much.  What sets are you most interested in seeing this year? What type of sets would you like to see released? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to frequently check the release calendar on our website for the most up to date information on when the newest vinyls will be coming out this year.

trade game

Have you ever come to a point while collecting Vinylmation where you just kind of look at everything you have and say “What am I doing here?”  With so many different vinyls coming out on what seems to be a weekly basis, a lot of us get into that habit of wanting to get everything as it comes out regardless of whether we really want it or not, its the completionist in us that does it.

For myself, my closet is overflowing with vinyls, they are in drawers, on the floor, in tackle boxes, shot glass cases almost any place you could possibly imagine, I have a vinyl there.  I think we all get to that moment in collecting where we either think we have too many, or don’t really have a theme to our collections. I am one of those people.

There seems to be many ways we can get a hold of our collection’s. Properly displaying them around the house is something I have tried as well, don’t be afraid to put them out there in your house they are great conversation pieces. Almost anytime someone has come into our house and see the filled shot glass cases on the walls filled with the coolest Vinylmation has to offer, friends always ask what they are and fall in love with them. They are great art to add to any house on the walls.

You may be feeling though that displaying them isn’t quite the issue, that your room or rooms for that matter are just overtaken by the hobby.  Cutting down a collection can be extremely sad after putting so much effort into building it. Nice ways to get your collection in order can include collecting character from only certain movies, individual characters or any type of them that fits your wants.

Another great way to condense of course is to attempt to trade multiples of vinyls you may not want or need for that one hard to get vinyl that you are dying to have, I tend to find myself doing that a lot. It’s a great way to bump up your collection while decreasing it in size. Collecting vinyls is fun and it always will be and you should never let the size of your collection discourage you from collecting more, but sometimes we may need to get it in order.

I know a lot of people out there have their ideas of how they organize, condense or display their collections. I would love to hear what you have done with yours? Let us know by posting in the comments.

Earlier today we posted a screen capture from D23’s Instagram video of some Disney Store previews showing the LE Minnie from the “Introducing Mickey & Minnie” Collection. Thanks to Stitch Kingdom, we now have a better look at both Mickey and Minnie.

Both Mickey and Minnie come with an exclusive pin and retail at $26.95 each. Mickey has an LE of 2000, while Minnie’s LE is at a mere 300.

Oh, how I wish I was at D23!

When pictures of the Policeman Mickey and Fireman Donald Jrs. surfaced earlier this week, there were also rumblings of a third Jr. featuring everyone’s favorite, Goofy. Well, Disney artist Enrique Pita laid speculation to rest with the release of this on his Facebook page:

My new designs, New York Exclusive Jr. Keychain Vinylmation. NY Taxi Cab Driver Goofy, NY Policeman Mickey, NY Fireman Donald. At NY Time Square Disney Store.

I was debating about picking up the Mickey and Donald pair. However, with the third one being part of the set now, it’s looking as though they will be in my shopping bag when I hot Times Square in a couple of weeks.

Thoughts on the new Jrs.?

UPDATE * We have been sent this picture of all three together in their packaging from a reader:

The Disneyland Resort just got merrier, as the holiday season has officially hit the parks. I took the recently released Santa Mickey vinyl for a tour of DCA and Disneyland.

Radiator Springs is covered head to toe in decorations for the season. Even old Stanley is sporting a Santa hat and bag.

The Cozy Cone Motel thinks orange should be more than just a Halloween color.

That Mater loves the holidays. The “star” of his tree is a spark plug.
