park starz variants 60th

This past week, Disney revealed a new video showing off a first look at some of the new Disneyland 60th Anniversary items which included a few sneak peeks at some new Vinylmation that will be released alongside this celebration. Its a bit difficult to work out what some of these new Vinylmations are, but here are some ideas and information we already know about.
disneyland 60th vinylmation sneakSadly, these Vinylmation were very far in the background and it is difficult to see exactly what is coming out, There looks to also be either a blind box from Park 16 or a possible Eachez on the right and on the left it looks like we will have a twin pack featuring Mickey & Minnie in their 60th Anniversary outfits, which are similar to these plushes.

disneyland 60th 2We first found out about a Vinylmations featuring a new Park blind box series and a Park Starz Bride & Pirate twin pack at the Imagination Gala, last September. And looking at this image from the video, we can see a number of unknown Vinylmations plus the two known Park Starz variant and what looks to be a Silver version of the Matterhorn’s Abominable Snowman.disneyland 60th vinylmation sneak 2Here are the previews from the Imagination Gala:

What is interesting is that this Park series is labeled as Series 16, yet we haven’t seen series 15? If this series is due out in late May or afterwards, could they have changed the number or perhaps slide out two series over the summer?

This week from the Vinylmation Vault we will be looking at one of my all time favorites in my collection, the Park 5 “Disneyland” 9” with an LE of 800. There are so many reasons to love this one but for me I just love that 50’s and 60’s commercial colorful art surrounded by the classic attractions from Disneyland.

I have only a few of the 9” Vinylmations in my collection and not surprising they are the old Mickey mold. There just looked better that way. Actually I have only eight of the 9” vinylmations. But the few I do have I absolutely love and they all have that special something that necessitated me in collecting these larger than life Vinylmations. Okay that’s a bit much but you get the picture that I love these special Vinyls.

Growing up I was intrigued by the simple and elegant illustrative art that has been embraced by one of my favorite artists in this genre, Mary Blair. Her work of art and animation are spread across Disneyland; Disney World, as well as a few of the other parks as well. One of her most well known piece is the work she created character designs for enduring attractions such as “It’s a Small World”. But the one I was most taken by, as a kid was the giant mosaic piece she did at the Contemporary Resort wall. Finally after 42 years later I got to see it in person and it was just awe inspiring and mesmerizing. She has that simple classic look that is just timeless.

More recently I learned about another great artist and his extraordinary artwork he has created in the Disney form. Josh Agle or “Shag” as he is better known as. His work I would describe as Stylized graphics with an inspirational feel.

His artwork balances beautifully with the classic Disney design. His art does go beyond Disney and I would recommend anyone to look up him up name and see what his work. When doing the research for this article I found out how Josh Agle got the name Shag. “The Shag name started in about 1987 when I decided to sign that on my paintings. It was a shortened contraction of my first and last name (Josh Agle). I never really intended to be called Shag, but that’s sort of what happened; now almost everyone calls me by that name.”*

With a contemporary chic look, like Mary Blair and “Shag”, with vibrant and colorful “Retro inspired” colors in squares, rectangles, parallelograms and the rest of the Algebraic shapes cover the entire 9” Vinyl Mickey! Nestled between these colorful shapes are classic Disneyland icons on the front and the back.

Screen Shot 2015-02-16 at 9.14.27 PM

In the front there is Mark Twain’s Riverboat on Mickeys face, on Mickey’s tummy is the famous Casey Jones Jr. Circus Trains and rounding up in the front is one of the Jungle Cruise boats making waves on Mickeys right foot.

Screen Shot 2015-02-16 at 9.14.38 PM

Moving to Mickeys back right foot there’s the Horse Drawn Trolley with the Rocket to the Moon’s Moonliner making home on Mickeys left hip pocket. Then of course there’s Sleeping Beauty’s Castle on the back of Mickey’s head and finally on the back of the right ear there’s Tinkerbelle flying and spreading pixie dust everywhere.

Though the colors that were used on the vinylmation differ from the actual item that was symbolized, I still feel that the each icon was well characterized in the color format that was used and in some cases I like the artist colors a bit more. And more importantly is that the drawing and shapes work so well together.

Only on a 9” Mickey Mold be it old or new can so much creativity can be shared. However, some of the 3” Vinylmations have shown that if done correctly can share the same feel. Its sad that the stopped making the 9” mold as there are so many other great ideas that could of be shared among the collecting community. Sadly there were just too many poorly designed 9” Vinylmations that were being released. But that is only a guess. Thank goodness though for the custom artist as they take a 9” and create some amazing pieces of art.

Disney have updated their November release schedule with some bad news for collectors in Disneyland. This Friday the new Gravity Falls blind box series is due to be released online at and at Walt Disney World as scheduled but the series has been pushed back at Disneyland.

Update from Disney: Please note the change to the release date for Gravity Falls for theDisneyland® Resort. The Vinylmation™ figures for Gravity Falls will be released at the Disneyland Resort at a later date, TBD. However, the figures will be available at the Walt Disney World Resort as previously noted.

Are you planning on adding these to your collection?

This Friday, August 8th, Disney will be releasing the Haunted Mansion Mickey and Gang Vinylmation set.  This set arrives a day before the 45th year anniversary of the beloved Haunted Mansion ride at the Disneyland Resort in California.

Introduced on August 9th, 1969, this theme park attraction has become a “must see” for Disney fans visiting the happiest place on earth.  One cannot consider a trip to Disneyland complete without visiting this timeless house of horrors.  Throughout its forty-five year span at Disneyland, this ride has maintained its classic feel while performing modern updates to keep younger Disney fans engaged.

Due to the popularity of this Disneyland attraction, Disney officials made the decision to replicate this haunted mansion at various Disney parks throughout the world including Florida, Tokyo, Paris, and Hong Kong.  In fact, this theme park attraction also spawned the Eddie Murphy classic *cough, cough*, “The Haunted Mansion.”

Traditionally, Haunted Mansion vinylmation sets tend to be very popular. The last haunted mansion box set literally sold out online in minutes. Although this set has the dreaded topper, I still believe that this will sell out quickly.  The combination of Haunted Mansion nostalgia mixed in with traditional Mickey Mouse and friends is a recipe for success.

Looking at the 360 degree previews from, I am most excited for the Mickey and Minnie toppers.  The smug and disinterested look on their faces makes this a definite must have for me.  As a topper, you would think that I would be guaranteed to get both of these vinylmations.  I wish this was true, but as an online shopper, I risk the chance of getting two of the same toppers.  Many people shared this sentiment when the last Star Wars Bobba Fett topper set was sold online.  If only would give us the option to choose which topper we wanted.

What do you think?  Will you be up at midnight waiting for this release?  Will this set be one of the sets you chose to get in August or will you save your money for the other 17 billion sets being released this month?  Now if only this set had an Eddie Murphy chaser…..

Hello everyone! The new information buzz has died down a bit since E3, but we hope to get more information in the days to come! Today I report to you all regarding a little easter egg that Disney left all of us fans at E3. Remember my first update from the event, there was a few little hints of things to come inside the toy box demo area. There was a picture of Mr. Toad hanging on the wall inside this room. Heres a little reminder?

Mr. Toads Wild Ride! I'm still afraid of this ride in Disneyland! I don't want to go to hell... :(

Mr. Toads Wild Ride! I’m still afraid of this ride in Disneyland! I don’t want to go to hell… :(

So before I get into this even further, who is Mr. Toad? All the die hard Disney fans will know this, but the following is for those who don’t know…

Mr. Toad actually comes from “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad,” Disney’s 11th classic animated film that released in theaters on October 5th, 1949. It is an animated musical feature composed of two segments based on the stories “The Wind in the Willows,” by Kenneth Grahame, and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” by Washington Irving.

Mr. Toad

Mr. Toad is also known for his Disney Park Presence! “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” is one of the original Fantasyland rides that debuted when Disneyland first opened it’s gates, back in 1955. It also was one of the original rides when Disney World’s Magic Kingdom first opened its gates back in 1971. Disneyland’s version is still in operation today, but sadly is no longer opened in the Magic Kingdom. A chubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff took over his Floridian home. “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” is a classic and still popular to this day in Disneyland. Its the only ride that has a “hell” of an ending!

So enough history lessons, whats all this have to do with Disney Infinity? Well it so happens that while reviewing some B-roll footage, Buzz Lightyear was racing Merida in an interesting set of wheels! Does this car look familiar to anyone?

To infinity and beyond!

Please note, this isn’t confirmed yet! But seeing this in action only gives us positive hopes of taking a “wild ride” in Infinity soon!

Well aside from total excitement, how else do you guys feel about more Disney goodness joining the Infinity Platform!? Hope you guys enjoyed this mini update. Please stay tune for more info. We only report it as it comes! Thanks for your patience!

With all the Oswald craziness of Friday at Disneyland, the chaos continued with an Earthquake that shook D-Street up a little, our reporter Kiyoshi Kuarmoto sent us in some photographs of the current selection in Disneyland’s D-Street which shows a limited amount of Topiary Combo Toppers behind the counter as well as some Easter Oswald Eachez.

What would you be spending your money on?

We love to see photographs of Disney stores Vinylmation selection and VK reporter Kiyoshi Kuramoto has sent in some photographs of the current stock currently available at D-Street in Disneyland.

Kiyoshi added that they have moved the store around by putting the Vinylmation near the entrance, changing the window display to feature the Blank 3 Foot Vinylmations and also put some huge Vinylmation banners above the figures to give the whole display much more focus.

What would be spending your cash on?

If you would like to share photos of the Vinylmation in your local store or at the parks.  Feel free to send them to us.
