Who could it be?

Hey Guys! I have an interesting update. Seems like I have been the one misunderstanding the info I obtained from the conference call and not others, so I apologize for the misinformation. People make mistakes and this one was on me!

So, it looks like that variant figure they were talking about wasn’t Crystal Mickey after all.

Crystla Mickey

Thanks to one of our great group members Andrew Tate, he provided us with the info on one of JV’s tweets today! Check it out!

photo.PNG

So it looks like we will get an IGP (Interactive Game Piece) costume change variant figure aside from Crystal Mickey.

So, Let the speculation begin! Who could it be out of all the 1.0 and 2.0 figures that we know about? Black suit Spider Man? No suit Baymax? Space suit Stitch? Classic Mickey? Baby Groot? Tell us what you think!

Who could it be?

Who could it be?

Disney Infinity Extra Life Marathon Kick Off

Hey guys, its Abe here with an update! Yesterday I had the privilege to attend the Disney Infinity Extra Life Marathon kick off event, held on the Disney Interactive campus in sunny Glendale California! For those not familiar with Extra Life, it’s an annual video game event where thousands of gamers unite to raise funds for local children’s hospitals. The Disney Infinity team took on the challenge and aimed to raise $15,000 for this great cause, and the Disney Company would match their efforts.

Disney Infinity was live streaming the event on Twitch from 11 AM to 3 PM PDT, showing all the cool festivities taking place at the event. Johnny V. and Allison hosted the live stream and brightened up the event with their timeless charm and vibrant personalities. They played games within the toy box, displayed game play from unreleased figures, interviewed Disney Interactive team members, hosted a costume contest for the kids, and even had a sing-along for the extremely popular “Let it go!” from Disney’s Frozen.

They also invited everyone playing at home to show their support by offering a special 24-hour Toy Box blitz challenge to help inspire their day of play! I can’t wait to experience some of those toy boxes that show what “being a hero” is all about!

The event had a few stations set up with multiple activities families could experience. Kids were given a couple of power discs which they could use to play in the multiple game stations set up around the area. They also had a disc trading station set up for anyone who brought discs to trade from home or to swap discs they acquired at the event. There was a donation station for those who wanted to contribute to the cause and help the Disney Infinity team reach their goal. They also had complementary burger sliders and breaded mac and cheese dumplings for all the guests. Quite delicious to be honest! One of my favorite stations was a card making station where you could create cards themed to Disney Infinity, that were all going to be given to the children at the hospitals they were raising funds for. It was fun to use crayons and color pencils again (its been a while), not to mention, writing a personal note to a child you don’t know that will make a difference in their life! Such a selection of great activities for so many families to enjoy! Heres a few pics of the entire set up.

The Disney channel was also filming on location as well and had their own crew filming a couple teens playing the game. I’m sure they had their own extra life broadcast going for the channel or at least some clips to play during their shows. It was cool to see them work around lots of people.

One of the final events during the kick off was the costume contest! These kids were cute and had some really nice costumes.  JV, Allison, and a guest voted for their top winners, who all got a ribbon to show for their achievement. All the kids that dressed up were treated to a free DI 2.0 originals figure, but the main winner had their choice of either starter pack for whatever console of their choosing. It was very entertaining! They also followed up the contest with a “Let it go!” sing-along.

Overall, this event was a fun experience. Plus, it was for a good cause! The Disney Infinity team reached their goal of $15,000, which meant the Disney Company would match it, so $30,000 was raised thanks to their efforts! A big thank you to the entire DI team for putting on a great event, for making an excellent game, and for raising money for such a great cause! You guys are awesome X infinity!

Mr_Toads_Wild_Ride1

Hello everyone! The new information buzz has died down a bit since E3, but we hope to get more information in the days to come! Today I report to you all regarding a little easter egg that Disney left all of us fans at E3. Remember my first update from the event, there was a few little hints of things to come inside the toy box demo area. There was a picture of Mr. Toad hanging on the wall inside this room. Heres a little reminder?

Mr. Toads Wild Ride! I'm still afraid of this ride in Disneyland! I don't want to go to hell... :(

Mr. Toads Wild Ride! I’m still afraid of this ride in Disneyland! I don’t want to go to hell… :(

So before I get into this even further, who is Mr. Toad? All the die hard Disney fans will know this, but the following is for those who don’t know…

Mr. Toad actually comes from “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad,” Disney’s 11th classic animated film that released in theaters on October 5th, 1949. It is an animated musical feature composed of two segments based on the stories “The Wind in the Willows,” by Kenneth Grahame, and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” by Washington Irving.

Mr. Toad

Mr. Toad

Mr. Toad is also known for his Disney Park Presence! “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” is one of the original Fantasyland rides that debuted when Disneyland first opened it’s gates, back in 1955. It also was one of the original rides when Disney World’s Magic Kingdom first opened its gates back in 1971. Disneyland’s version is still in operation today, but sadly is no longer opened in the Magic Kingdom. A chubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff took over his Floridian home. “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” is a classic and still popular to this day in Disneyland. Its the only ride that has a “hell” of an ending!

So enough history lessons, whats all this have to do with Disney Infinity? Well it so happens that while reviewing some B-roll footage, Buzz Lightyear was racing Merida in an interesting set of wheels! Does this car look familiar to anyone?

To infinity and beyond!

Please note, this isn’t confirmed yet! But seeing this in action only gives us positive hopes of taking a “wild ride” in Infinity soon!

Well aside from total excitement, how else do you guys feel about more Disney goodness joining the Infinity Platform!? Hope you guys enjoyed this mini update. Please stay tune for more info. We only report it as it comes! Thanks for your patience!

After three amazing days of video game overdosage, E3 finally came to a close yesterday. It was a thrilling, action packed expo full of great gaming for all major consoles. Although many games were competing to be the best in show at the expo, they also fight to see who gives the best swag. I’m happy to report that Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes was the hot ticket item! These figures not only caused early morning stampedes to get to the line, but they also averaged two hour lines! The popularity of these guys were unprecedented! A great sign that these figures will fly off the shelfs!

On my final day at E3 I was given the opportunity to take a tour of the booth and to have a private demo from some of the game producers. While on this tour I was able to obtain more information that we haven’t heard before. I also took advantage and got some video footage of gameplay that I will be showing you guys in following updates. So for now, enjoy all this great new information below.

– LIFE MATTERS: Your figures health matters this time around! Your life doesn’t just regenerate anymore. You will now have to pick up sparks to refill your life bar. If your figure runs out of life, the toy breaks, and you have two options. You can either restart from your last check point or you can place a different figure on the portal. I am assuming this is specific to just the playsets and possibly in toy box challenges.

– DIFFERENT SPARKS: Ok guys! This one is pretty cool! You now have four different sparks to collect to help your figures progression. You can differentiate the sparks by color. Here is what they are and what they do…

  • GREEN SPARKS: They regenerate your health bar.
  • BLUE SPARKS: These sparks are your new economy.
  • PURPLE SPARKS: These regenerate your special ability bar.
  • ORANGE SPARKS: They build experience to level your character.

– BASE COMPATIBILITY: Now this one might be a little let down for some. I’m not sure if this is even a DI issue but more so a device issue. This is regarding upgrading consoles.

  • PS3 => PS4 – NO NEW BASE REQUIRED
  • XBOX 360 => XBOX ONE – NEW BASE REQUIRED
  • XBOX 360 => PS4 or PS3 => XBOX ONE – NEW BASE REQUIRED (this ones obvious)

– TOY BOXES ACROSS PLATFORMS: Also having to do with upgrading or using different devices in general, all your toy box saves will be available across platforms. The reason why you can do this is because your toy box saves are attached to your Disney ID. Its basically the same reason why you can pull up your toy box on an iPad and then pull it up on your console.

– SPIDER MAN PLAYSET IS BIG: Just like the Avengers playset, the Spider Man playset will be four times larger then the Incredibles playset, which was the largest playset in the first Disney Infinity game. I really like how are new playsets will be bigger on this round! Can’t wait!

– HULK’S LATE ENTRY: For those who don’t own the Sony consoles, Hulk will make his way to your home 30 days after launch. Just incase anyone still is confused, Hulk is a time exclusive for the Playstation, not a console exclusive. That would cause a lot of people to turn into a raging green monster!

Sorry Sony! I got my own time exclusive from Disney!

Sorry Sony! I got my own time exclusive from Disney!

– RESPECCING YOUR FIGURES: Respeccing your figures will be available, however what the process will be is still to be determined. The talent trees even have a button for it already in the build, but they are still tinkering with what will enable the respec. From analyzing this picture below, notice there are two circles on the bottom corners. One says 1 and the other says 2. Maybe you will only be limited to doing it twice? Then your figure would have to be releveled if you really wanted to respec badly enough. Still to be determined.

These talent trees are going to make this game so interesting!

– NEW DISC CATEGORY: We already know about the costume discs and team up discs, but with the reveal of the new Disney Power discs, there has been new lingo thrown around about a certain power disc type. Event discs is a new category. It is similar to the team up discs where they have to regenerate via timer and you have to summon them, but instead of it being another character fighting with you, you summon an event. One that was revealed a while back was the Hellicarrier Missile Strike and the new one revealed recently was Zeus’ Thunderbolt.

Zeus' Thunderbolt

Zeus’ Thunderbolt

– DUPLICATE DISC BONUS: Now any discs that you own that are duplicate, will give you an added bonus. It isn’t specific whether it will be a one time bonus or random bonus. Its also unknown whether it will be just experience. If anything, it may be several things like all four of the spark categories.

– COSTUME DISC BUFF: Costume discs allow you to change the appearance of a specific figure with in game. However, you will not be able to change all the characters into this costume. Instead if you play this disc with another figure, they will get an added attribute or buff.

– TOY BOX INTERIORS: When you build in your toy box, you are able to place a door on walls or buildings to allow building an interior. You will be allowed to build 10 levels deep. So basically 10 rooms within the interior. Thats pretty big! How about building inside the UP house??

– LEADER BOARDS: They are adding leader boards to the game. Now you can share and compete with your friends for ultimate bragging rights. Any challenges found inside playsets or the toy box, you will be able to share your results with your friends. There will also be top scorer leader boards.

– CHARACTER CROSS OVER BETWEEN PLAYSETS: Through out the playsets you will find tokens that indicate a connection with another character from a different playset. When you find all these tokens, you unlock a special mission. Once this mission is completed, you unlock that character’s cross over into that playset. Side note… NOT ALL CHARACTERS WILL CROSS OVER! Still can’t wait to see Spider Man swinging with the Avengers!

– SPECIAL CHARACTER BUILDERS: Aside from the normal builders inside the toy box, there are special Disney characters that have building attributes. For example, remember the Eve I showed you on another update? Well it turns out she is one of those characters. Because Eve harnesses life, when you drop her in an area, she will build a small forest! Another example is Captain Jack Sparrow’s first mate will build you a pirate themed town or the Sultan will build Agrabah. Pretty cool no?

Eve was placed in this area. Look at that little forest she has built!

Look at all the builders!

Look at all the builders!

– TOY BOX GAME TEMPLATES: I’m really excited for these! They have prebuilt template games ready to play when you build them in your toy box. To give you a couple examples, one is literally like Smash Brothers. You can invite up to three other friends to play with you and it will keep score. It has weapons and toys scattered around, just like in Smash Bros. Its pretty cool. The other example is probably my favorite. Its called Red Light-Green Light. You race over blocks that are colored green, and if you don’t pass them before they turn red, your character breaks, and you start from the check point. It was pretty fun!

Smash Brothers Infinity!

Red Light! Green Light!

Thats all the new info I got from my booth tour. A lot to take in! Oh and before I forget, a couple of other things I also saw inside the game. One is an update about Sven from Frozen. He is not a power disc. He is actually a toy you can unlock inside the game! We initially thought he would be a power disc, but its great that he isn’t. It means we get one more cool thing from the power discs instead! :)

SVEN!!!!!

Also, more Gravity Falls discovered! Guess who I found running around? Its the Gnome! Theres actually a toy tree trunk that when you are close enough, they pop right out! I saw three of these little buggers running around at one time! Awesome!

Guys, it was loads of fun covering E3 this year! Lots of exciting news for all of us fans of the Disney Infinity Platform. The whole event was fun, but Disney really put on a great show. I want you guys to know that everyone I spoke to and interacted with working the Disney booth was professional, very accommodating, and overall, great company. They answered all my questions and had lots of patience with me and the tons of media running around. Not to mention, they were always happy and smiling.

I want to say, on behalf of myself and the fans here at Infinity and Beyond VK, we thank you Disney! All of you did a remarkable job! I want to also say that everyone from Disney Interactive and Avalanche Software, you guys have created a masterpiece! We thank you times “infinity!” The fact that you guys are still working hard for us today is mind blowing. The demos themselves were incredible, yet the game isn’t even finished! Well done! And finally, a big thank you to John Vignocchi! His energy and enthusiasm makes him the perfect representative for Disney Infinity. I saw him at least seven times running around the convention center. You guys have no idea how busy he was.  I was fortunate enough to finally get to meet him briefly. What a true gentleman!

The true gem at E3 this year!

The true gem at E3 this year!

I hope you all enjoyed my three day coverage of Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes at E3 2014. Please know that there are more updates to come. Stay tuned!

Please join us on our Infinity and Beyond Facebook page and tells us what you think about DI 2.0!

disneyinfinity2

This past week Disney released a sneaky trailer for Disney Infinity 2.0 which showed the current DI characters like Mike, Captain Jack Sparrow and Buzz Lightyear but with a few teases of some new Disney Infinity items including Madam Air boat and Captain American’s shield.

If you didn’t see that trailer, here it is:

There has been loads of discussion over on our Infinity & Beyond Facebook Group about what this trailer means and there are lots of different theories.  This trailer did exactly what it was supposed to do, get people talking about Disney Infinity.

With the last of the current wave of releases now out (Agent P and the third power disc pack), we only have a couple of releases left such as Crystal Agent P and possibly a crystal Sorcerer Mickey (Not that we’ve seen anything on this for a long time).  In the past few months, interest in Disney Infinity has died off as many fans of the game have completed the play sets and moved onto other games (I know once I got my PS4, I was distracted!).  While the weekly toy boxes and the new releases do keep people coming back in, it was bound to happen, while Disney is doing their best to keep interest in the game throughout the year, most people want new play sets and new figures, though with loads of promotions by the different stores, it is bringing new people into the game.

For many Disney Infinity fans, the new teaser trailer is very exciting, as I mentioned before, the current wave of figures/discs has ended and we all want new things.

Last year, Disney had said that if Disney Infinity was a success (& it has been), they would be releasing yearly updates, but the figures/discs would be backwards and forward compilable, in a similar way to how Skylanders works.  And speaking of Skylanders, they have produced three different versions of the game including Giants and Swap Force, each time its a new game with new characters and sometimes even a new portal.  This isn’t a huge surprise as the company will want fans to keep buying new figures and games, so the announcement of Disney Infinity 2.0 ties into that.

There are a couple of different theories about what 2.0 means, but these are the two main ideas:

  • A straight up sequel, which means a whole new disc/starter pack with loads of new figures, power discs and play sets.
  • DLC – New content will be made available to purchase with Downloadable Content which might allow for new figures, toys, play sets.

Now I’m just sharing my own thoughts on this, as of yet, all we know is what we have seen in the trailer, we know Disney Infinity 2.0 is coming, but we don’t know what it is.  In the coming weeks and months, Disney have confirmed they will be sharing more news with us, but at the moment we know very little.

My initial reaction to hearing 2.0 is that this is basically a different name for Disney Infinity 2, instead of using a catchy tag line like Giants or Skylanders, or even just using a simple 2 or just adding a year to the title (it works for all the sports titles like WWE or NFL), they look to have decided to go down the edition number way which sounds odd but I think it actually makes things a little more simple.

Disney have said right from the beginning that this is a platform, that they will be building on, tying in new releases with new movies and just adding to it.  We don’t yet have a video game system that will allow people to constantly have new play sets and figures without using DLC, buying one starter pack to last the next 5 years, just wasn’t going to work with so many users still not hooking up their consoles to the internet and while its possible, too many people can’t do this yet.

That doesn’t mean DI can’t be updated with new content, but while to most of us DLC is normal, many casual gamers don’t think that’s the case.  If they picked up a new Captain America figure in Walmart, they expect it to work without even thinking of needing the internet to update their game, which is why if it says “DI 2.0” on the cover, its Disney’s way of getting around this.

Plus more importantly, means every year, people have to buy a new starter pack.  I mentioned before sports titles like WWE, UFC etc, who release yearly updates and that’s become the norm, and that’s where I think Disney Infinity is headed, while the figures and power discs can be brought along for the ride.

The other big reason why I think this is a new disc is that with the new consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One now launched, Disney will want to launch on those consoles as well.  I hope because both console uses Blu Ray discs with have much larger storage space, the play sets from the first game will be included (as otherwise we all have to hold onto our old consoles and that isn’t much use) and also being linked to other older consoles (though I hope the Wii version is dropped as I think that was a huge mistake), it does limit what can be done with DLC.

I have no doubt that in the future, everything will be DLC and that will be the norm, but even Microsoft backtracked on the Xbox One not having a disc drive, the general public aren’t yet ready for full DLC.

So what do you think Disney Infinity 2.0 is?
