*UPDATED* Thanks to some awesome corrections by our readers (see comments below), I have decided to update my “wish list”.  Thank you and enjoy!

With August more than halfway done and our bank accounts nearly depleted, Disney is hitting us with yet another vinylmation set this Friday.  Disney has already announced 7 of the common characters: Doc, Donald Duck, Fix-It-Felix, Flynn Rider, Mabel, Piglet, and Tuke.  The big question lurking on our minds is, “Who or what will be the chaser?” Here are my thoughts….

Kuzco as a llama from “Emperor’s New Groove”

Screen Shot 2014-08-21 at 9.40.20 AM

This movie is one of my favorite lesser known Disney movies.  David Spade’s sarcastic humor fit Emperor Kuzco perfectly.  I’ve seen a bunch of Disney pins with Kuzco, it would be nice to see him as a vinylmation.

Mud Covered Maximus from “Tangled Ever After”

Screen Shot 2014-08-21 at 9.45.57 AM

In Animation Series 3, we saw a red Pascal as the variant.  I think it would be cool to see a mud covered Maximus as the chaser for Animation 5.  “Tangled Ever After” was a short film released where Pascal and Maximus went on a chaotic adventure trying to recover Rapunzel’s and Flynn’s wedding rings. At the end of this short film, we see Maximus exhausted and covered in dirt.  This scene would make an awesome vinylmation.

Ray from “Princess and the Frog”

Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 10.42.50 PM

Characters from The Princess and the Frog are surprisingly absent from the Disney vinylmation world. I could be wrong, but  I don’t know of a single The Princess and the Frog vinylmation out there.  If you have not seen this movie, I would highly recommend it.  Hearing Ray sing “Ma Belle Evangeline” was one of the more heartwarming moments of this modern day Disney classic.

Sofia the First

Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 10.41.22 PM

To be honest, the only reason I chose this character as a selection is for my daughter.  Sofia the First is actually a really great cartoon on the Disney channel.  The catchy tunes and parental-like messages that this show conveys makes this a must watch in my household. If a Sofia vinylmation ever came out, my 4 year old would be bouncing off the walls.

Who do you want to see as the Animation 5 chaser?

Here I am sitting in a giant line at WDW’s first trade night. I have been in line since about 7:30 in the morning thinking that 8 would have been a safe bet to get some of the trade night figures. It’s now 1:30 and I am probably 200-250 in line. I just keep telling myself we will have to see when the merchandise line opens at 6.

Good news is that (barring Disney’s Internet servers) this gives me time to write up this post about the custom swap photos I did yesterday. It was a lot of fun getting everyone’s figures in the mail and seeing what people had made, and I am now glad I get to share all those pictures with you.

Note: Its now the day after and I was successful in getting both figures and the Elsa pin so yay!

For those of you who are unaware of Vinylmation Kingdoms custom swaps, I’ll fill you in. Artists sign up to make a custom based on a specific theme. The figures are made and then mailed to a location where a photo shoot is taken. After the shoot, the figures are then all randomized and sent back out to the artists. So basically make custom, picture, get different custom back.

This first one for this year was based off of Disney or Pixar shorts from the past or present. We had figures submitted representing a wide variety of styles and time frames. The shoot was set in Walt Disney World at Hollywood Studios and at Art of Animation Resort.

Here are our artists:

1. Travis Denman-Sing-a-Long Songs Professor Owl
2. Rob Mack- Ben and Me
3. Roger Palmer-Chip
4. Mike Whartenby- Old MacDonald Duck
5. Ibby Day-Ben and Me
6. Arjan de Wit-Casey at the Bat
7. Linda Brubaker- For the Birds
8. Michael Gall- Sleepwalkin’
9. Gabrielle Queso Smith-For the Birds
10. Jason Cracraft-Windell- Lifted
11. Haily Windell-Lonesome Ghosts
12. Kimberly Hawk- Tummy Trouble
13. James Hawk- Mad Doctor

14. RehvengeInk Customs- Party Central

15. Matt Ferry-One Man Band

16. jay grumet- Mickeys Trailor
17. Bethany Gwyther- Paperman

18. Sherman Sung-Lifted
19. Tracie Grumet- For the Birds

20. Jennie Neil- Casey at the Bat
21. Michael Maslowski- Ortensia
22. Christina Mountford-Night and Day

Ready to see the great work that was done? Then roll camera. Action!

First stop was at Holywood Studios and the Animation Courtyard area.

I really like using the color functions in my pictures. I feel like it changes the whole tone of the shot.

The Animation gallery consists of two parts. The first is located in the original que and loading area for the Backlot Tour. Although the area is currently not accessible to guests, it showcases many concept drawings for some of Disney’s greatest animated films.

Another great color variation.

The second section of the Animation Gallery is located just before the entrance to the Art of Disney Store. At the moment (and since about 2012) the exhibit is called Setting the Scene and highlights background artists and how their contributions of streets, hills, and even some famous castles contribute to a story.

Although the studio is no longer creating full length animated features at this location, you can still find Disney animators working on various projects such as inking and painting character cells. If you visit when an artist is present you may be able to ask some questions too.

The area is also home to many characters including Minnie, Incredibles, Wreck-it Ralph and my favorite Sorcerer Mickey!

One of the activities in the area are expression spinners in which you try and match the correct pair of eyes with the correct mouth. I thought the next couple of pictures were fun match-ups.

One of the hidden gems of this area is the Drawing Academy. This free class lets you learn how to draw a Disney character from a Disney artist. The best part of all is that you get to keep your sketch as a souvenir! This sketch below is not from the class but it can be found in the kids coloring area. I like that although its meant as a coloring paper, it still shows the basic lines and circles that make up a basic character sketch.

Lets move over to Pixar Place!

The red bricks of Pixar Place make for some great color shifts. Of course stopping by the Effects Department helps as well.

Now we just need Luxo back at the Lighting Department.

There is a reference in One Mans Dream to one of Walt’s first creations Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald starred in 26 cartoons before being stolen from Disney’s control in 1928.

The Ol’ Swimmin Hole was produced in 1928

When Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened in 1989, there was a lot of references to the new movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit around the park. The yellow steam roller from the movie could be found crashing through a wall near the Studio Catering Co., and there was even plans to create a mini-land based on the film. Years have gone on (actually were approaching the parks 25th anniversary on May 1st) and some of the props have come and gone, but this window above the Hollywood and Vine restaurant is a fun find in most Disney trivia books.

Walt Disney and his animators started their whole studio focussing on shorts. I was glad to see the studio put a focus back on animated shorts with Paperman in 2012.

The second stop for our photo shoot was at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. This resort served as a perfect backdrop for our Disney/Pixar theme. First we will stop by Route 66 where we find all of our favorite Cars characters.

The Lion King is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and the Elephant Play-yard made for some fun pictures. The brown highlights really bring out the skeleton frame.

Finally, Ariel let me borrow one of her most prized sea finds.

And thats a Wrap!

I want to thank you for viewing this post and I hope you enjoyed the shoot. I want to thank all of the artists for creating such great figures and I will (hopefully) have them all mailed out soon.

The next Custom Swap has been announced and it is going to be based on anything and everything Lion King as we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the film. If you would like to participate in the next Custom Swap or would like more information on how they are done please visit this link:

I will be posting these pictures and more on our customs Facebook page in the next few days. If you are a custom artist, want to become an artist, or simply just like looking at what people have done, the group can be found here:

Thank you again for reading/looking and I appreciate any comments you would like to put below about the photos or anything in general.
