Disney Infinity 2.0 Upgrades/ Changes
Sparks: From Abe’s E3 coverage, we know that there now will be four different colors of Sparks. They are:
- GREEN SPARKS: They regenerate your health bar.
- BLUE SPARKS: These sparks are your new economy.
- PURPLE SPARKS: These regenerate your special ability bar.
- ORANGE SPARKS: They build experience to level your character.
With the economy sparks, some improvements to the Toy Box make them even more valuable. For instance, Toy Box builders can insert treasure chests into their creations that, once opened, will award sparks, and the builder can regulate the amount of sparks. Killing enemies inside Toy Box creations can also yield economy sparks, and those too can be regulated. In addition, artists can insert new Storefronts inside their creations where players can purchase certain toys, chosen by the artist. JV gave the example of a Storefront having the ability to have the Atlas Sword, Bullseye the Horse, and the Toy Story Midway Mania Blaster inside of a Toy Box level. In order to purchase those toys, probably to advance in the game, one would need to kill enemies or find some way to earn those economy sparks.
Each character in DI 2.0 will have a progressive attribute/ skill tree, so each player can customize their own character how they want. All characters, including all of the ones from the first game, will get full skill trees. Since skill tree points are based off character level, if you bring in a character of a certain level into 2.0 from the first game, it will carry the skill tree points that a character of that level should have. For example: a Level 10 Elsa brought in to 2.0 for the first time will carry along the corresponding skill tree points of a 2.0 Level 10 character. Players may re-spec their characters only twice with no consequences. After that, if they want to change their character’s attributes, they will need to reset the character to Level 0, losing all of it’s data and experience. There are roughly 40 skill tree unlocks per character, and not all unlocks are achievable in game for any character, truly making each character unique to that player. In addition, the Toy Vault in the Toy Box has been replaced with a “Skill Tree” like structure, where individuals can choose their Toy Box options, and each choice progresses them a different way. Character Regeneration: ~ In the Toy Box, there is automatic regeneration when a player’s character dies, unless inside of a Toy Box made where it is set to another option. ~ In Play Sets, when a character dies, the player has the option of either putting another character on the Infinity Base, or resetting back to the beginning of the last mission started. However, while playing multi-player, some characters can revive dead characters to keep them inside the game. There are settings in the skill trees that strengthen this attribute.
DI1 to 2.0 compatibility
All original game characters will be forward compatible to 2.0, and their experience cap will raise to Level 20. All power discs will be forward compatible to 2.0 Most/ All Toy Box toys will be forward compatible to 2.0 (same system???) The Disney Infinity Base will be forward compatible to 2.0- same system. In addition, the PS3 base can be used on the PS4. The same is not possible with the X-Box 360 to the X-Box One. All Toy Box saves will be forward compatible to 2.0 (same system???) DI1 Play Sets will NOT be forward compatible, but carrying them over into 2.0 WILL unlock the toys and such from those Play Sets that you unlocked into the 2.0 Toy Box. Disney will continue to make DI1 figures to support DI 2.0 game play.
Downloadable DI 2.0
A downloadable version of DI 2.0 will be available for consoles where individuals want to not buy a new Disney Infinity base. It will not be available until after launch date.
General Power Disc Information
Duplicate Bonus confirmation: the experience bonus for duplicate power discs are once per power disc… per account. So, if players trade discs, the bonus is still available on another account. Repeat of a “Series Set”: We will not see an offering like the Target Series 2 Power Disc Set released again. TRU Exclusives: it does not sound like Toys ‘R’ us will be getting any more Power Disc Exclusives. However, it sounds like the (6) Power Discs that have yet to be released outside of the TRU packs will remain TRU exclusives, and not released in the future.
Unlike DI1, certain characters in the Marvel Universe will have the ability to play within multiple Play Sets, as it follows the same style of story-telling as the comic books. Not all characters will have this option, and all remaining characters will be franchise specific (like all of the DI1 Play Sets).
Iron Man, Hulk, and Nova are confirmed as “Cross-Platform” Characters so far.
Toy Box Upgrades
Toy Box Game Discs: Each TB Game is 4-5 hours of gameplay designed for a special set of characters. However, unlike Play Sets, once a level, or “wave”, is met in game by required character, a “skirmish” mode is unlocked, which allows any Disney Infinity character to play that level or “wave”. The Brush System: You choose the area and the Toy Box builds it for you. Examples: NYC street scene and racetrack.
All Toy Box sizes across all platforms will be at least 4 times larger, which will give everyone a chance to build bigger. Also, when building in the new gen consoles, there will be a meter letting the builder know when they hit the maxium for the next gen consoles. Builders will not max out your Toy Box when dedicated to building things, such as tree house or a building.
Some builders, like Eve, will build special things. Eve builds a forest. Terk builds a travel rail system. Mr. Gibbs builds a pirate town. The Sultan builds an Agrabian marketplace. There are also special builders The Lost Boy and The Grand Duke.
Interiors: You can now build a door into the side of an object in the Toy Box that will take you to ‘interiors’, where you can build INSIDE of the object. There is also a “Home” element, where you can unlock upgrades.
Logic Toys will be upgraded and easier to use, giving everyone an easier chance to become a Toy Box Artist, as well as making the games feel and look more complete (gone are the days of the fireworks cannon). Included in these upgrades are templates, where you can enter an entire rules set into you Toy Box, and that come pre-programmed for a certain objective.
