Hey guys, its Abe here with an update! Yesterday I had the privilege to attend the Disney Infinity Extra Life Marathon kick off event, held on the Disney Interactive campus in sunny Glendale California! For those not familiar with Extra Life, it’s an annual video game event where thousands of gamers unite to raise funds for local children’s hospitals. The Disney Infinity team took on the challenge and aimed to raise $15,000 for this great cause, and the Disney Company would match their efforts.
Disney Infinity was live streaming the event on Twitch from 11 AM to 3 PM PDT, showing all the cool festivities taking place at the event. Johnny V. and Allison hosted the live stream and brightened up the event with their timeless charm and vibrant personalities. They played games within the toy box, displayed game play from unreleased figures, interviewed Disney Interactive team members, hosted a costume contest for the kids, and even had a sing-along for the extremely popular “Let it go!” from Disney’s Frozen.
They also invited everyone playing at home to show their support by offering a special 24-hour Toy Box blitz challenge to help inspire their day of play! I can’t wait to experience some of those toy boxes that show what “being a hero” is all about!
The event had a few stations set up with multiple activities families could experience. Kids were given a couple of power discs which they could use to play in the multiple game stations set up around the area. They also had a disc trading station set up for anyone who brought discs to trade from home or to swap discs they acquired at the event. There was a donation station for those who wanted to contribute to the cause and help the Disney Infinity team reach their goal. They also had complementary burger sliders and breaded mac and cheese dumplings for all the guests. Quite delicious to be honest! One of my favorite stations was a card making station where you could create cards themed to Disney Infinity, that were all going to be given to the children at the hospitals they were raising funds for. It was fun to use crayons and color pencils again (its been a while), not to mention, writing a personal note to a child you don’t know that will make a difference in their life! Such a selection of great activities for so many families to enjoy! Heres a few pics of the entire set up.
The Disney channel was also filming on location as well and had their own crew filming a couple teens playing the game. I’m sure they had their own extra life broadcast going for the channel or at least some clips to play during their shows. It was cool to see them work around lots of people.
One of the final events during the kick off was the costume contest! These kids were cute and had some really nice costumes. JV, Allison, and a guest voted for their top winners, who all got a ribbon to show for their achievement. All the kids that dressed up were treated to a free DI 2.0 originals figure, but the main winner had their choice of either starter pack for whatever console of their choosing. It was very entertaining! They also followed up the contest with a “Let it go!” sing-along.
Overall, this event was a fun experience. Plus, it was for a good cause! The Disney Infinity team reached their goal of $15,000, which meant the Disney Company would match it, so $30,000 was raised thanks to their efforts! A big thank you to the entire DI team for putting on a great event, for making an excellent game, and for raising money for such a great cause! You guys are awesome X infinity!
