With lots a released information yesterday, the new info buzz wasn’t as loud today at the Expo. However, I say this with plenty of confidence, the creative geniuses at Avalanche Software and Disney Interactive have so much more in store for us with Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes and “Beyond!”. Because the flow of new info was limited to what was announced already and what I can discover while playing, I want to touch on a few things: New pieces of relevant info, some toy box builder in action images, brief descriptions of what the Spider Man heroes do, and talk about my experience with the controls. Again, all this was obtained and observed while taking pictures of the demos and playing the game. So enjoy this quick update!
First, lets talk about a couple new pieces of information I picked up while I was playing the game.
-Everyone remember the toy vault spins you needed to earn in order to take a crack at unlocking a toy you wanted? Well say good bye to it! Speaking to one of the producers, he mentioned that it is now gone. Instead, we will have a new way to earn our toys, and it will be quite fun. He had to be “hush hush” about it so he didn’t say what the new way would be. So no more random toy spins (I’m pretty happy about this).
-Everyone wanted to know if team up disks work with any figure? You bet they do! Heres one of the new team up discs, a rare, named Yondu. He’s pretty fast and attacks in a cool way. Below you will see that Merida decided to team up with him in this toy box! :) Also, will there be any new Disney property team up disks? Yup! Guess we will find out later this year!
-We all know the answer to this one, but many of you have been wanting to see what a Disney character looks like on one of the new Marvel power discs that were handed out on Monday. Well since I was having fun with Merida, I decided to use her again, but this time on Jack O’Lantern’s hover board. Check her out!
-Tell me more about the skill trees! Well if I understood this correctly from one of the demo guys, you will earn one spec point for your skill tree every time you level up. So every level, you have a new decision to make on how you will spec your figure. Whether you want to work on Thor’s Lightning abilities or his melee attacking, you choose your path. “The possibilities are Infinite!” (Well not really, but you have many options).
What about our level 15 Elsa? Will she already be spec’d for me or will she have a 5 point talent tree?Well, you will have 15 points already available to you when you first drop her in the 2.0 toy box, so you can spec her talents to your choosing. The additional 5 points will be earned as you level her up to 20.
Another cool thing I learned is that these talent trees and specs will also be affected by new and old power discs. For those of you who thought some of your old power discs were a bit repetitive and useless, well now they have more purpose then you know. Some of the talent specs will be improved or even buffed with the old and new power discs! Pretty cool, no?
-One last thing that some of you have been wondering and I personally have been dying to know. Maleficent! I wasn’t too happy that the king cut her wings off. Will I be able to give her her wings back?!?!? Although I didn’t ask anyone or get any confirmation, I think if you carefully look at her talent tree above, you may get your answer! :) :) :)
I wanted to quickly touch on one thing about the new toy box builder feature. Its amazing! One of the developers demoed putting a piece of a tree down. Then the builders took off! I have a few snap shots that show you the tree being built over time. I only stuck around for the beginning, but eventually this tree would be massive and automatically stop, since the builders don’t max your toy box out. After that, you can edit and customize it. Pretty cool!
Ok, on to our newly revealed spider man heroes. Heres some basic info I overheard during a demo.
Lets start with Nova. Nova is a flying type character. He will be your Iron Man equivalent if you will, except have his own talents and attacks catered to him. He’s a cool looking figure.
Nick Fury is awesome! He is considered a Melee figure and is fast at attacking! He is your equivalent to Black Widow, except again has his own abilities and talents. I love how he fires his hand guns! totally cool! Oh, and a cool surprise, he’s actually voiced by Nick Fury himself, Samuel L Jackson. Love this figure!
Iron Fist! Also a melee fighter. His attacks will be unique and talents will be his own. He is a fun one to watch in game. No specific equivalent mentioned, but we can sort of figure that ourselves. Keep an eye on this one!
Both Spider Man and Venom have new features not seen in Avengers…They can swing! They both strike me like the flying hovering attackers, so Spidey would have a Thor equivalence and Venom a cross between Thor and Hulk. Their wall crawls are also pretty amazing! Check these bad boys out!
I didn’t want to show any game play pics as I’m working on that for another segment. I will show you some Spidey pics for the purpose of talking to you about my experience with the controls!
Ok, let me warn you! Although some of the game play will feel familiar, the controls are going to take some getting use to. You see the hovering-flying-attacking moves are new to 2.0, so it took me a few tries to get the right moves going. It will be easy over time, but these guys have different attacks and moves so each character will have different button configurations. I will say that this may seem to complicate things for some people, but honestly, I saw a five year old web swing flawlessly with Spidey in a matter of a minute. So get ready to learn a few new button configurations.
Ok folks, thats all for now! I am literally just walking out the door in a few minutes for our last and final day covering the E3 event! I should be getting some more info this time around so stay tuned! Talk to you guys soon!
