Wow! What a holiday season it has been here on Main Street! The Parks were glowing every night with excitement of holiday cheer. Not to mention the “fire everything” mood of New Years Eve at the parks as well. If you got a chance to experience the parks during this past holiday season you would know that it truly is the most wonderful time of all, and to those of you who have not visited in that time of year I strongly encourage you to do so next year.
Well, a new year means that Main Street tours is back and ready to show you all whats new in the world! Today we visit Hollywood Studios! I got my directors cap and my megaphone. Everyone ready? Lights! Camera! Meet Me on Main Street!
We start off this tour by stopping off at Sids on the left side of the entrance.
Sids has now been turned into a FastPass+ kiosk for guests to update their FastPasses for the day and for general FastPass inquiries.
The stations are basically Ipads set up on the My Disney Experience app and they will have you log into your account and you will be able to access all of your plans for that day. I know some guests have been having trouble with the phone application so I do see this as a nice service for guests to use.
There is plenty of room for multiple guests to use the stations here and they have set up a few more kiosks around the park as well including by Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Muppets 3D. Don’t Worry though, most of the memorabilia that is still hanging on the walls is still available for purchase. Most of it has been moved back to the AFI exhibit at the exit of the Backlot Tour.
Keystone Clothiers has always been the main store I have found to include more of the urban, new, or “cooler” Disney shirts.

There is a new outside lounge at the Hollywood Brown Derby
The lounge is a first come first serve area that requires no reservations. The menu features small bite items and cocktails. It is also open for dessert time and features a strawberry champaign cheesecake.
This may have been going on for a while now, but all the members of Citizens of Hollywood came out to do a show at the Sorcerer hat about 11:30ish. I have only seen a few out an about at various parts of the day so this surprised me.
There is some new additions to the Magic of Animation Exhibit and surrounding area. As usual, Disney has put concept art and drawings for their newest film in the waiting area for the Mushu show. Being displayed now is concept art from the breakout hit Frozen.
After the Mushu Show, you can explore the rest of the animation area including on select days watching an animator ink some cells which will then be available for sale. Something new I discovered which Im sure has been there for a long time is that the artists are able to talk to you. They have a microphone and will sometimes answer questions.
Across from this room is posters for some of Disney/Pixar’s upcoming films.
Minnie now has a special meet and greet location next to Sorcerer Mickey.
The que is set up as a hallway leading up to her dressing room which is where Minnie is. The walls have fake movie posters of classic movies redone with a Disney touch. They are all highly detailed and most mention rare characters such as Peg Leg Pete and Clarabelle Cow.
Some other neat features are the character sketches done in the style of those that would be on the walls of the Brown Derby.
Inside the next room is the leading lady herself.
Heading towards Pixar Place is the newish Legend of Jack Sparrow attraction.
The attraction is a step-up from the Narnia exhibits that used to be in the same space although really it is a one and done type thing. The technology used is great and the show is quite funny.
Surprisingly this attraction would actually have waits in the 30-40 minute time frame due to the length of the show. Instead of having a bunch of switchbacks in the area the attraction is stealing a little FastPass magic and handing out return times for upcoming shows.
Across from the Jack Sparrow attraction is a new coffee stop, but its not Starbucks.
Studios is using Joffrey’s coffee much like most of the resorts are. Im not a coffee drinker so Im not sure how it compares with Starbucks but my wife has said its a great addition to the resorts.
Still awaiting the return of Luxo, but until we get the rights to the character it will be lights out for now.
The backlot tour was closed for refurbishment. I don’t know what they are doing to it, but it needs to be changed.
Looks like the Monsters Inc. meet will now always be a Monsters U meet.
Mike and Sully meet in their college swag, but still wont be signing autographs. Since this is based on Monsters University, I don’t think Boo will making appearances here either.
In the back of the park, there is another Joffrey’s coffee station next to the Cars meet and its themed to that area as well.
Phineas and Ferb have had a meet and greet next to muppets for awhile now. It used to be accompanied by a little show they would do. I don’t know if they still do the show or if its just a meet now.
Just like the parks are getting so hip swag to purchase, Star Wars is getting in on the excitement with some cool stuff as well.
Vader was very fond of this shirt in particular.
One of the newer souvenirs at Tatooine Traders and Once Upon A Toy is the Droid Factory. You are able to build your own Robotic style droid by selecting from different parts and putting them together.
Some of the special toppers include a Mickey ear hat, Indiana Jones Fedora, Captain Jacks hat and this little fella that Vader just had to have.
Over at the Jedi Training Academy, the show has gotten to be one of the more popular things to do at the park for younglings. They now have shows running pretty much every half hour throughout the day. I think at park opening you either run to Toy Story Mania or run to sign up your kid for the Academy. The sign-ups have moved to where the Sounds Dangerous building was around the corner. I think that is the meet up spot for those participating in the next show is as well. Getting there early is a must because each show has a limited number of Padawans that are able to participate and the spaces run out fast.
Speaking of Travis, we met up and he was able to pull the Park 13 variant chaser. I had my regular chaser with me, although there really was no construction walls to use it with. So I just took a picture of buddies together.
One last place I went was Muppet-vision 3D. There is really nothing new here, I just wanted to take some pictures of some of the gags and props in the que because not a lot of guests get the chance to read them since they are paying attention to the TVs or they get to walk right into the next show. Not many guests know that there used to be (and still is) a que line for this attraction on the right side of the building. It is rarely used, but they have some funny fake movie posters in the que.
Right at the front entrance is the directory of offices for the building.
If you have time before the show starts I recommend you look around at all the neat props and gags.
OK! Thats a wrap!
That will bring this tour to a close. Did you enjoy this movie filled adventure? Next week we will be getting wild at the Animal Kingdom. Until then Ill be waiting for the next group on the best street of all.
Just Meet Me on Main Street!
