Hits & Misses – Animation 4

Welcome to a brand new edition of Hits and Misses as members of the Vinylmation Kingdom community share their thoughts on a series and this week we take a look at Animation 4.

RogPalmerUK – For me the Animation series is one of the biggest series of the year, representing classic Disney characters as well as lesser known characters.  This series is pure Disney at its finest and Animation 4 kicks off exactly where Animation 3 left us.  From this series I have to come straight out and say that I think the twin pack featuring the mice from Cinderella, King Louie Combo Topper and Louie, Huey & Dewey triple pack are going straight on my shopping list.  But getting back to this blind box series, this could be one of the last remaining sets of 12 figures and there are a few big figures that I love, including Wreck it Ralph (though its maybe not as I would have expected it to look) and its nice to have a different Dwarf included in a set.

But there does seem to be a lot of duplicate figures that have already been done, which is slightly worrying that the artists are running short on ideas and having a smaller set might have assisted in making this a little more stronger.  Abu is a great little figure though it does look very similar to the monkey from Under the Big Top, though that officially wasn’t Abu.  I’m glad Meeko is being redone as many collectors haven’t been able to get hold of the Furry Friends version and Timon is a decent figure too.

BigThunder87 – Animation 4 is one of those series that at first glance looks a little dull and boring but there are a few hidden gems inside, I think Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh is a nice addition as we don’t get enough characters from Winnie the Pooh and I’m also a fan of Abu from Aladdin (and beats having him on a Junior).  But I also like Peter, another new character that we’ve not seen before.

James King – I am pretty new to Vinylmation and Animation 4 is one of the first series I’ve been able to buy a few while I was on vacation and got a couple that I liked including the cool chaser from Hercules, I couldn’t believe my luck that I go this one.  I also love Wreck it Ralph, one of the best characters from recent times.

RogPalmerUK – What has happened to the Animation series?  One of the strongest and most popular series seems to have gone a little off the rails, this set just doesn’t seem as special as some of the earlier sets, too many repeat characters and the lack of anything really exciting, especially with no apparent variant to get people into buying more blind boxes.   I wouldn’t say any figure is that bad, its just not that exciting and I’m very disappointed we didn’t get a three caballeros Donald Duck figure and the chaser looks out of place amongst them all.  So while none of the figures are really misses in that they are poorly designed, they just look a little, meh!

BigThunder87 – This should be called Animation Re-Released, Meeko looks so similar to the Furry Friends figure, Bambi looks too much like the 25th version, I’ve had enough Dwarfs and did we need another Lucifer or Timon.  Also what the hell did they do with Wreck it Ralph?

James King – I managed to blind box two little purple things, what is it?
