Color Block Series Revealed

Unfortunately, the color block series is nothing more than Junior Series 2 in 3″ form with higher price tag.  It’s to be released June 29 as an open edition series with a price tag of $12.95.

Ok, we do get one “new” vinyl.  It’s Mickey….

But it does bear a striking resemblance to the Romantic Treats version (except, not as detailed and fun).

But, we also get a Minnie interpretation that has been done twice before.

Epic disappointment here.  Kind of tarnishes that Junior Series 2, as well, which was simply awesome.  I would humbly like to request a Splash Mountain Series before we redo any other series from the past.

Wow, talk about a series worth passing on.

Are there really that few new ideas floating around the office? Come disney artists I expect a lot more from you guys. So people buy the Jr Series already, now you want to them to buy them all over again!

Seriously, again? As a fan of Juniors I loved this series when it originally released. Now, I feel insulted and disappointed by the “re-release”! Not even going to talk about the lack of creativity from the Disney concept artists. Although, they are still in my like catagory so I may just give in and grab a couple I didn’t get the first time around :-)

  4. Absolutely disappointing. I’m sure something fresh and original could’ve been made like Romantic Treats but I see it’s too much.
I am 95% convinced Vinylmation is now nothing more than cash grabs of toys rather than being unique collectibles. :(

Only 95% convinced Vinylmation is only a cash grab? I was 1000% convinced it’s a cash grab since they went to the new mold for the purpose of pumping out more designs in less time.

i’m a 100% convinced. I’ve been 100% convinced for over a year. Occupations. Celebrations. CLY. I don’t say that with contempt. Disney walks a line. Let’s face it… they learned to walk this line with Pins. there is merchandising to the average joe (the plumber), and there is collect-ability. Disney still provides the rarity for those of us who are collectors (FP Pooh, Mickey’s Circus, HM Bride Variant), but they are not there to SERVE the collector… and i don’t think it’s right that we demand they do.

I’ve been building on my collection for 2 years when i bloxed only urban figures because i loved the artistic designs. Let’s say this wasn’t true. Let’s say… I started this weekend (as i am going there) and this set was already out. I know nothing of Juniors Series 2. I DO know that i see this set. It’s artistic and clever. As an artist i’m drawn to it. I’d probably buy an urban blox and one of these because this one has a more “Disney” feel to it while still being artistic. And Disney has just met my need.

Let’s say i did start 2 years ago… but my wife and i never decided to do JRs (as we originally had planned to stick with only 3″). So we do… We do only 3″. BOOM. I’m still gonna get this series.

as a collector, i’m torn between loving this series because i love the take on characters and hating it for being a remake. That’s partially to do with the fact that i do, indeed have the JRs 2 set.

I think one thing is clear: we need to give the Disney Artists a little slack.
1)These decisions might not being made by them.
2)If it is, it’s to benefit people outside the hardcore collectors. and that’s OK.
3)the designs have not become less awesome.
4)they are making a their art more attainable to the public for a retired series. That’s OK too. I’m always grateful if I go into the Art of Disney store, see something awesome on the wall, and instead of paying $5,000 for the acrylic painting, can pay $20 for a print. Is it the same? no. Does the person who buys the original piece really feel gypped that I have an 8×10 paper copy? No. They are not reproducing this series. They are remakes on a NEW medium. they are not the original. they are my $20 8×10 and not meant for the owner of the original. and again… that’s ok.

    :)

  6. Blah…Blah…Blah….
That is about all I can say. Recycled art on a poor canvas. That is all these are. The fact the Cutester 1 Minnie has more detail that this new mold color block Minnie is absurd. The artist can do better…
They will sell OK because they are cute. But there will be a million of them and will end up at the outlets or for sale on line. No need to pay retail. But as Konrad said, they will sell to the novice or new collector that is walking into the Emporium.
Another questionable decision that current VM leadership has made.
    Blah…Blah…Blah…

just another trash from disney, somebody need get fired!!! Which dummy design and passed it??? Or disney just use this worthless series to make money off from those dummies who actually collect this series!!! If Disney got no talent, I think we all know people with talent who can replace those dummies currently working in VM office… Disney just say so we can find you replacement artist easy… however stop those worthless/ugly/stupid series or design!!!
