“Up in the Attic”: Palisades’ Muppets

Well, this past week at work has been insane. Combined with a busy weekend coming up, and my free time has been very limited. Still, I wanted to share something with all of you this week from my collection. TECHNICALLY it wasn’t a Disney property when these were made, but since the Muppets are now under the Disney flagship, I wanted to share with you these amazing action figures from Palisades Toys.

I credit Palisades Toys and this line in particular for getting me back into collecting toys as an adult, which ultimately led me here to this fine Disney community. They were the first company I tried to collect entire series of, went special places to get exclusives, joined an online community to talk about my newly found obsession, and probably spent more money than I could afford at the time.

What follows is a good number of the pieces of my collection, but there are more pieces I have not on display. The majority of the pieces not on display are stored away MIB/ MIP, or are repeats that I just didn’t need displayed (Swedish Chef and Fozzie Bear, for example). As much as I would love to say that I have the COMPLETE series of Palisades’ Muppets line, I don’t. I am missing a few key pieces, and some of my current collection would need replacement, being that they are a little “well loved” here and there. Also, with the number of variants that I once had but traded/ sold away… I doubt I will ever have a complete collection.

I just got done rearranging my bedroom and finally got these pieces back out and displayed. I am not going to go thru every piece. However, if any of you would like me to expand on a piece of sub collection, I will. Just let me know.

Have a great weekend.

Great series, Travis. Thanks for sharing. Just out of curiousity. What are the Palisades made of? Vinyl, resin?

    • Thanks, Pete! In answer to your question... the main Palisades Toys line are pose-able action figures... so I would assume vinyl, as they can take a little abuse... top heavy Rowlf (behind the piano), has fallen off a shelf a few times and lived to play another song. The smaller line in front of the pose-able Jim Henson are Mini Muppets, which are vinyl also, they just can't move.

A little more back story: This line was produced between 2001 and 2005, before Palisades Toys went bankrupt. There was a total of (9) series of the main line consisting of (4) figures each, most of which had at least one variant. There were also numerous retailer exclusives, convention exclusives, and online club exclusives. At the time Palisades Toys closed its doors, work was under way for a Sesame Street line, as well as a couple of Fraggle Rock figures. This bankruptcy took a lot of us off guard, sespecially since there were actual finished prototypes of the Sesame Street line at the last convention Palisades Toys was at, as well as various stages of characters from Series 10 and 11 of the Muppets line.

I believe they are made out of some form of PVC plastic, not vinyl.

Palisades’ Muppet line is one of the greatest action figure lines of all time. You can find concept art and line ups for several future series and it makes me sad we will never get those.

Which I guess is still a form of vinyl, but it’s not the same type of vinyl that Vinylmation or Kidrobot figures are made out of. Palisades Muppets are thick and have a good heft to them.

          • Yea, the Palisades’ Muppets are very sturdy for displaying, aside from a couple of top heavy figures and some of the early Kermits before they got the legs right.

And you are probably right, Rust…. probably a PVC of some sort.

        • I wanted a Sal Manilla to go along with my Johny Fiama! And the Muppet Babies 2pk! And Mini Muppets Electric Mayhem! Ugh.

    Nice collection Travis!

    • Thanks Brad. Not nearly complete, and not nearly all of my collection, but I just got it displayed nicely after moving my bedrooms around (the second bedroom, which will house my Vinylmations eventually, is in shambles) and wanted to show it off. That and it spoke for itself mainly as an “Up in the Attic” article.
