Welcome to the first Vinyl Versus! Every other Saturday we will be premiering a new versus where we will combat vinyl against vinyl in a match for who’s the best in there category. We will choose our favorite in each category explaining why we think they are the outstanding winner. There will of course be some nice rival banter on why ours is better later in the comments. Then we ask you to choose your favorite and voice it in the comments as well.
So lets get started!
Category: Best Character Design,
Jfunnyfur’s Choice: Ursula – Villains Series 1
This was a tough choice. I looked back at both older and newer vinyls and while one side of me was picking a character from the new Lion King series I really couldn’t help but go back and look through some of the older ones and finally settled on Ursula.
She is a very hard character to develop on this kinda mold and I think the artist captured her wonderfully. Her facial features are great right down to the makeup and wrinkles. I especially like how they pulled off her octopus tentacles and making them very realistic to her character in such a short space. The neckless was a great touch as well. Overall she is just a great character design and exceeds from them rest in my opinion.
Bdwyfan’s Choice – Simba – Animation Series 1
Picking the best character design was difficult. Would I be bias to my favorite character, Pluto, as I love all designs with him? In the end I went with Simba from the Animation#1 Series.
Now the reasons that he is the winner for me in this category. He has a tail. The tail makes him look more like a lion and less like the Mickey mold. There are many character designs that I see Mickey first and then the character second. I also enjoy that his ears aren’t clear, so many others have clear ears and they stand out like a sore thumb. The overall color pattern is spot on for Simba. Simba in the Lion King Series, the colors for Simba cub make it difficult to tell if it’s Simba or Simba’s daughter. Overall, Simba is my favorite character design.
Hope you enjoyed. We look forward to hearing your favorites in the comments!
