Cars 2 and D23 Updates!
The disney vinylmation blog was updated with information regarding D23 and the 2 pack Cars set. The cars set will be released on August 26th at the parks and some new information is that it will also be coming to Disney stores on September 19th. Also some new information was released about the D23 vinyl.
The figure will have an edition size of 4,800 and a retail of $13.95. The figure will be presented in an open window box. Artist Thomas Scott will also be at the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Thomas and have figures signed. Thomas will be appearing at the follow times and locations:
Friday, August 19, 2011 - 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the Product Showcase and Trading Area
Saturday, August 20, 2011 - 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the Product Showcase and Trading Area
Sunday, August 21, 2011 - 12 Noon – 2:00 p.m. at the Product Showcase and Trading Area
In addition to the Vinylmation, Jr. Series making its debut at the Expo, Thomas also created the 3-inch figure featuring Gladstone Gander. This figure has an edition size of 1,200 and a retail of $13.95. It will be presented in a window box with display base.
Will all of these “for sure” be sold at the Expo? Would any be available to D23 members after the Expo?
I don’t believe the Cars 2 pack is scheduled to be sold at the expo but the others are for sure going to be sold there. Not so sure if they will be sold after the Expo. I think that if there are no purchasing limits in place then there may not be any left after the 3 days.
There were purchasing limits put in place during the July pre-sale and I assume they’ll be in place during the convention. If I remember correctly these were the limits:
9″ Butch: 1 per person
3″ Gladstone Gander: 2 per person
3″ Davy Crockett: 2 per person
3″ D23 Expo: 5 per person
9″ Noah’s D23 Expo custom: Random Selection Process… if there were any left during the 2nd RSP then yes it could have been more than one per person. I’ve heard rumblings though they were gone during the 1st RSP.
Cars 2 doesn’t appear on the Event list, though Gonzo with Camilla will be for sale at the convention! At the rate of all the schedule changes I wouldn’t be shocked if they did appear. The set shouldn’t be too hard to get since it is listed as an “Open Edition” set on vinylmation.com.
Actually I take that back about Noah’s vinyl. There were a limited number of the 23 that were for sale during the RSP process and those did sell out. There will be some for sale the expo, but there isn’t a definite number as to how many.

I am sorry to say this, but the D23 look Terrible on the new mold. The outline of the original mold just does not look right.
Gladstone looks OK, but I will not be needing either of these.

yeah, i’d say this D23 looks as bad as the sea creatures (and thats bad). lol
I agree, these look pretty terrible on the new mold. These look like really cheap toys, and the fact that D23 has the outline of the old mold on the new mold makes it look really really bad. And it reminds me why the new mold is awful…
Hey, I also heard that there’s going to be Disney Store at Times Square Exclusives and Disney Store at San Francisco Stockton Street Exclusive
both le 2500 but no prices yet. I am going to be broke by the time I come home. LOL
I love those design…. very clean and fresh… however on new mold just ugly!!! I did not see quality get better, design still the same (some good and some bad depends on the artist) but paint on the mold still like the old mold… so I really dont see why not stop using old mold… I bet Disney can make more money with old mold..
You may want to check your source on the Cars set being sold at Disney Store locations. I confirmed via the Disney Store Twitter account that they will be sold at D-Street only.

Its sad how all the different Vinylmation-selling entities seem to live on different planets, with no interplanetary communication. They are such a mess.
LOL! Is that really a big surprise? I really hope they will be made avaialable at physical locations. Seems they need to have one central voice for the vinylmation world.
Are these vinyls only being sold to D23 members or all who attend D23 expo are able to purchase these
